HSI Explorer Post 601 > Who We Are
Who We Are
HSI Explorer Post 601 is a youth program dedicated to aspiring law enforcement professionals. We offer hands-on training, mentorship from experienced special agents, and community service opportunities. Join us to develop leadership skills, understanding, and a commitment to serving and protecting our nation.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Explorer Post 601 is a premier federal law enforcement youth program. Explorers participate in hands-on law enforcement training, develop leadership skills, and receive mentorship from special agents.
The program intends to “set them up for success.” HSI Explorers will utilize a three-pronged approach for success: youth leadership, positive adult role models, and the five critical elements of life experience. The five essential elements are Career Development, Life Skills Development, Community Service, Character Development, and Leadership.

The Explorers learn how to lead, plan, and execute most program activities. Simultaneously, the positive interaction between the Explorers and the agents/officers will also help open up the communication lines and build positive relationships between the community and law enforcement. Explorers participate in various programs, including local/national competitions, educational/historical field trips, community service, workshops, awards ceremonies, scholarships, and more. Parental participation is encouraged. Training sessions include HSI communications, law enforcement investigations, physical training, crime scene analysis, and surveillance operations.

Post Advisors, who are HSI special agents and technical staff, volunteer their time to train and supervise our Explorers.
Our Mission – What We Do, How We Do It
HSI Explorer Post 601 is dedicated to teaching meaningful life and professional skills to youths from diverse backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentorship. Our program provides character and professional development experiences that empower young people to reach their full potential in life and work.
The Post introduces young adults and their parents to law enforcement and government, offering an overview of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) responsibilities, focusing on Homeland Security Investigation's (HSI) mission to protect America and ensure public safety. Explorers receive structured physical and discipline training, opportunities, and lessons to become the leaders of tomorrow. Advisors assist with college applications and career paths, offering encouragement and support.
Our outreach targets young adults across diverse New York City Metropolitan Area neighborhoods. Explorers learn the importance of honor, service, and integrity. They can learn from premier federal law enforcement agency members, who are invested in developing the nation's future leaders. HSI Explorer Post 601 provides the experiences and knowledge needed for success in their future endeavors.
